WTO: Agreement On Trade Facilitation
On February 22, 2017, the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) entered into force after more than the required two-thirds of WTO Members ratified the agreement. The purpose of the TFA is to expedite the movement, release and clearance of goods, including goods in transit, and to improve customs cooperation. U.S. businesses will benefit from the increased transparency and streamlining of import and export rules in the TFA aimed to “cut the red tape” that still exists in moving goods across borders.
